Summer Adventures - Northern Wisconsin Woods

Our first summer adventure was to visit old friends in Wisconsin, about an hour north of GreenBay. Rivers, lakes, forests to explore.

It occurs to me that this blog post is a modern-day travelogue (I realize that dates me! Travelogues were presentations of travel movies, narrated live by the presenter). As George presented travelogues in the 1960’s, this seem an fittingway for me to describe my summer travels!

Cathedral Forest, a grove of old growth pines and hemlock, ironically protected by a logging baron’s wife as she had taken her children here to teach bible verses. Whatever it takes! This community of trees was awe inspiring. So peaceful and serene above the earth, yet knowing there’s a busy network of roots, fungus systems, and decomposing invertebrates below.

The soggy banks of this pond were teaming with life

How many frogs in the photo?

A Salamander! Do you see him? First one I’ve ever seen in the wild!!

The banks for the Peshtigo River hosted an array of wildflowers.

Blue Vervain

Sweet Joe Pieweed

Blazing Stars

Kayaking on Poust Lake - spring fed, no motors allowed! Ahhhh.

Day is done. Memories made.

Thanks for watching!!
